89 2.5 Engine Trouble

I have some questions regarding an 89 2.5 liter. It seems my engine has a missing problem. It misses at idle and at lower revs only. The problem happens at random intervals, but mostly when the engine is hot. Also, during the time when it's missing, it idles high (about 1250 rpm.) I've changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Also, I've replaced every vacuum line, and I'm sure that there are no vacuum leaks. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions. I've tried just about everything I can think of. I'm thinking that it could possible be an EGR valve or the TPS. I'm not sure if this directly relates to my problem, but it's all I can think of. In case it matters, I pulled the PVC valve and there seems to be a lot of blowby. When it's not misfiring the engine always runs strong. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Please no 4cyl jokes from you V8 guys.

Might want to check your timing or your O2 sensor or both.

Re: 89 2.5 Engine Trouble

I've thought about the timing route, but there is no way to adjust it. There is a tab on the distributor that the hold down bolt goes through. You can't turn it in small increments like any other distributor. The only way to adjust it would be to pull it out and offset it one tooth on the gear. I think that would be too much of an adjustment. If there is another way to adjust it, I would love to know. I probably will try an O2 sensor. This problem has me baffled.
