If it ain\'t broke, bondo it anyway

The further I get into my rebuild, the weirder things get. Cut out the floor of the tub to start replacing it this weekend. I knew the previous owner(s) had done some very basic body work and knew that a little bondo was to be expected. On a whim I started tapping the sides of the tub from the inside to see how solid they were and guess what popped off.... bondo.... at least a quarter inch thick. The crazy thing is, there is almost no rust anywhere on the sides. They just hammered the sides in and spend a couple hundred bucks on bondo. I have to admit it held up pretty well but was starting to suck water from the bottom. What a job! Nothing a chisel, grinder, and elbow grease can't fix.

Re: If it ain\'t broke, bondo it anyway

Looks almost like a bondo job I did back in highschool auto shop. We had a VW bus that had a smashed door. So he just had me bondo it. I probably put a 3/4" in some areas. It came out VERY nice. He just painted it and sold it to someone. Little sneaky, but hey, it works.

Yep, My old flatfedner project had bondo all the way around that thinck!! I stil lthink they should make you register for a license before using it. Evil stuff. At times necesary, but none-the-less evil stuff.

Same with my CJ. I knew the thing had been rolled and the body was a little tweeked, but when I started to cut out the rear wheel well for my TJ flares, the bodo must have been 1/4" thick.
