YJ - Gear information and questions.

Stock 90 YJ, 258, AX-15.

1) What is the "switch-over point" for gears?
Ultimately, I plan on running 4.10's in my stock YJ (3.07 stock), and I was wanting to know if 3.73, or 4.10 was when I needed to get a new carrier.

2) Would it be cheaper/easier to find a wrecked 4cyl YJ and just yank the axles and do an axle swap, or is it a better idea to just get some gears?

3) What's the ideal ratio for 31"/33"?
Ultimately I will be running 33", but once I finally get a job and can afford tires, I don't want to go any bigger than 31".
I'm assuming that 4.10 will be sufficient to run the 31's, but will I be wanting something more, like 4.56 once I do get some 33's?

4.10's will probably do you just fine with 33's. I have 4.56's and 35's and it does good.

try here for carrier breaks.. http://www.jeepgod.net/carrierbrks.html

with the 5 speed.. 4:10's will be fine with 33's.. it will keep it close to the stock power band..
