Where to get tubing?

Where can I get tubing from? I'm looking for:

1-3/8", 1/4" wall
1-3/4", 0.120" wall

I only need about 12' of 1-3/8" and about 3' of the 1-3/4".

Thanks

Re: Where to get tubing?

You can try find it at a local steel supplier, look under steel in the yellow pages in your area, or maybe try a local scrap yard you may get lucky. but This is some pretty heavy tube. the 1 3/8" dia x 1/4" is offered from Ryerson steel in my area (Buffalo N.Y.) if you can't find it locally maybe I can. Shipping costs may make that out of the question.
I have 1.31 dia x 0.09 wall if you can use that. Pay shipping and its yours. I think UPS will accept up to 7' (84") long sections. I dont have any 1 3/4 dia tube

Re: Where to get tubing?

Open your phone book and start calling around. Check and see if you have a metal supermarketers in your area, they are up here and have good prices and will sell you any amount of metal for 1" of tubing to enough to make a building out of.

Call some custom fabrication shops, maybe for racing or offroad, and ask if they have any, or where a good local spot to get some is.

Re: Where to get tubing?

this guy used to work at Pratt with me Will, he has a shop called "racers edge" a stock car guy, builds tube chassis, and skins the cars too, he has benders, welders, mills, and a tapered reamer.

he quoted me $2/foot for 2" .120 wall DOM.

he can order anything from teh same guys who supply Ozarksteel, and westark.

Ill PM you his phone number, he is in Farmington.

Here in kansas city we have a place called Metal by the Foot, and Metal cut to Length. I would look in your phonebook for places like this under metal distributors.

Re: Where to get tubing?

A quick reminder - unless they have a cut section laying around, buying 3' will usually cost just as much as a full length.

Re: Where to get tubing?

It won't always cost the same as a full stick. It pays to ask up front if they sell piecemeal and what the full stick cost is and what the piece cost is... Some steel suppliers don't mind sell shorts, and some do...

Re: Where to get tubing?

At my local Steel supplier, they only sell by the stick, generally 20'. they will cut it for you, but you buy the whole stick and pay for each cut. you can leave what you don't want, and many people do. they toss it in a pile and they let people pick through it and take what they want. last itme I was there there was a bunch of Usefull stock. you may luck out if you ask for the left overs pile or scrap pile....

Re: Where to get tubing?

Jeeper, where in IL are you and how much do they charge? The places around here are all raising their prices, and it's starting to get insane. Let me know. I might have to make a trip down there with a trailer.
