AFW steering box location part II
If you read the other post about the steering shaft being too long, you may have thought that I was imagining things. Well, got the shaft shortened and now the ball joint on the end of the steering arm touches the tie rod. It's not scraping it hard, I can't get a piece of paper between them and it just barely makes a mark on the tie rod. But, since the shackles are in the front, that means the axle and tie rod can come forward a bit more and hit. This is all stock suspension and steering components and it had clearance before. I'll call AFW later and see what they have to say about it.
I think the quick cure is to redrill a pair of shackles and steering mount brackets to move everything ahead a little. Let's see if AFW can figure that out. Anybody got a spare set of steering box brackets off a '76 - '86 CJ so I can get them reworked without having mine down while it's being done?

Your best alternative, Taz, would be to fab a steering box brace like Sam's www.4x4wire.com/jeep/reviews/samsstrbox/
but move the gear box an inch or so forward.
