Tranny problem! kinda long!!

Well everyone told me the T5 wouldn't last behind the AMC360.. I drove it to town today and on the way back at about 30mph I got a POP noise and then the tranny started knocking. I made it home and tried to pull the top off but from what I can tell the shifter lever will not allow it to lift up. So unless someone can tell me another way to peak inside, I geuss Im pulling it.
Last week just for the heck of it, I called Novak and they said they can modify my bellhousing to mate up with a SM 465 which I have. Has anyone here done this swap?? I would like to keep the NP 205 case thats mated to it but not sure on drive shaft lengths and u-joints(new yokes). Anyone here know???? Novak said $120 dollars to do my bellhousing but also said any good machine shop could do it with there directions from there web sight>>>
