SHE\'S ALIVE......4.0L Conv. going!!!!

After 18 months on the rebuild I'm driving the CJ again, only this time she's breathing with the 4.0L! Couple of questions still though....

I'm running 33" MTR's and 3.30 gears (bleh will change next year) I can't use 5th gear....does this seem likely with the 4.0L???? It's strong and quick down low, really quick but kinda peters out in 5th, can't use it....any help???

My guess is that would be normal. The 4.0's got some grunt, but not that much 3.30's are pretty high, and 33's are pretty big. Usually the right combo would be 4.10's with 33's.

Re: SHE\'S ALIVE......4.0L Conv. going!!!!

I have had a 4.0 in my 80 CJ-7 for 6 years now. I have 33's also and 3:55's i the pumpkins. Only a 4 speed( T-18) but I have know problem crusing 70- 75 on the highway. I have to chase a leadfooted friend when traveling to rides. Florida is too flat. If I had a 5th gear I would have no problems using it. It would be nice to have atleast 3:73's but it will be some time before I do anything if at all.
