Driver Side Axle? WHAT DO I GET

Ok since I got a ford driveline setup for my next project I'm looking for axle for Driver Side Drop? I am going to go with a 14 bolt fullsize as some people have beat into my head. So whats the deal with the frontend? Also should i use the power steering pump from the Truck I got the engine from? Thanks everyone

Re: Driver Side Axle? WHAT DO I GET

Is this going under your YJ?

i`m doing the same / similar swap of axles now too..

For the front end you want to look for a 1978/79 Ford RC D60.. It`s 8 lug like your 14bolt, and I believe it's 69 3/4 long Full Width.

If you get a newer than 79 you have to either shorten the long side so the spring mounts line up with your YJ or you have to outboard your springs...

For the 78/79 expect to pay $1,000 to $1,500 depending on condition/lockouts etc.. for the 79+ You can get them for ~$900 to $1200 depending on the same thing..

Did you get the Full Width 14bolt or the shorter C&C version??

I assume you will be running atleast 38" tires with this setup correct...??

You can always go custom frontend but they are $$$...

Dunno yet CJ frame or YJ frame going to decide before christmas hopefully. I've already got the engine, tranny, xfer case. I am going to get a Full Width 14bolt... I want to run 40s.

Re: Driver Side Axle? WHAT DO I GET

Sounds like fun!

Since your going completely custom I`d suggest finding any older Ford HP d60 front.. since you can easily outboard the springs and save yourself some $ and time finding the 78/79!..

Go with the YJ frame if you have a choice, less mess to deal with as far as width issues and they are stronger.

Re: Driver Side Axle? WHAT DO I GET

I think that is the route I am going to take find me an older YJ and go ahead and slap in the Ford Drivetrain... With the body I haven't really decided CJ or YJ... I love the Cj interior for its simplicity... yet I love the YJ's interior for it being alittle more cozy...
