ramblings on a CJ5

hey everyone. i been too busy workin and jeepin to post anything lately, so here it is. ( i know yall were holding your breath). im in the process of painting my cj. when i got it, it was a ugly gray primer over blue paint. and the primer was flaking off. so im sanding, and making it O.D. green. i fear it will look too much like an army jeep, but i suppose that aint all bad. it will look better at any rate. yall know of anything to liven up the incredibly flat, drab OD green? next on my agenda, my tub is bad rusty in the rocker panels. bummer, guess ill have to get some diamondplate. and, due to an incident with something sharp in a mud puddle, i got new tires for my jeep. ive heard yall talk about BFG AT's before, and they seem like they'll work good. next, i got the idea yesterday to take out the back seat and put in a big metal box, hinge the top, make a trunk(need a place for stuff). maybe even pad the top to keep it as a seat. any thoughts? well, thats about all the ramblings i could think of. ohh yeah-- my jeep needs a name. i realize a jeep should earn its name though something that happens to it, but hey, ideas cant hurt, right? thanks a bunch, sparky

OD Green will look great sparky!....just don't forget the white star on the hood! Actually I saw a rig in 4 Wheel and off road a few months ago that was OD with Flourescent (yes, FLOURESCENT!) Green for some of the accessories like the roll bar and such. Something like that might work for you....maybe a different bright color like hot pink...hmmm....I may have to play around with photoshop and get back to you on that! BFG ATs are great tires....For my area something more agressive is better, but we have far more mud than gravel and rock. Still, I'm looking at some BFG AT's for my daily driver when I roll new summer tires on it in the spring. For the back, look at Quadratech's website or their Essential's catalog for ideas. The make stuff like that ready to go, but you can fab it cheaper if you already have the tools. Myself, I'm putting a backseat into my jeep so my daughter can come along! As far as names for the jeep goes....they really should be earned, though my jeep's wasn't. It's sorta named after what I do....Alaska is the land of the midnight sun, and I've been known to do a lot of 4x4ing late at night.....thought about calling it "Midnight Rambler" but had heard the name "Moonlight Rambler" in a movie and it stuck. With your name maybe "Shock Therapy"...but then you'd have to paint it electric blue! Or "Lightning Bolt" or "Short Circuit".....Hmmm....no end to ideas! Occasionally my wife calls the CJ "The other woman" or "Bob's Mistress"....on that note, I once saw a race plane called "Miss Stress" that I thought was cool!

BTW, you have any family in Washington or Canada? Been doing a lot of Geneology lately, and wondering which branch of the Garrett's you are from.

Re: ramblings on a CJ5

I call my jeep"superflame deluxe".I was wheelin on day and came across a old fuel oil heater. It was totally shot except for the aluminum emblem on it ,hence the name.I took it cleaned it up and siliconed it to hood.A couple of people even asked me if I had a special edition jeep.Of course I told them it was the only 72 cj-5 to be built with a chevy 327 and lockers front and rear, very rare only 127 made.Makes me smile everytime.

Re: ramblings on a CJ5

I have been contemplating painting mine for a while now but wont get off my arse and start.
I have spent the last oh....12 years or so trying to think of a name for mine or even a good license plate but I can never seem to get it right
I think it has something to do with the fact that the jeep is never done?
Oh well we'll see what the next 12 years brings.
