Okay, now I have some Dana 44s.....
Well, I have a pair of Dana 44 now. The front is a passenger side drop Scout 44 (how can I confirm this?) that has chevy outers with the top mounted steering arm. The front is complete from end to end and everything turns well. If it is in fact a Scout, then I will probably need to have the yokes rewelded for caster. How does one easily check for the proper caster (I know it seems easy, humor me )?
I also have a rear Dana 44 that I may not keep. It is ~59 inches across and in good shape though the gears are trashed. I might get a 60 instead, haven't decided. The front is 6 lug and the rear is 5 lug. Which is better?
1. What should I check into when rebuilding my Danas?
2. Again, how can I tell if it is a Scout axle?
3. Should I keep the Chevy outers or swap in my old Dana 30 outers to get the 5 lug pattern.
