4x4 dash light

I've just installed a posi lok in my 88 yj...however I cant get the dash light going. When I unhooked the factory actuator , there were only vac lines attached.Where do I find the wires to hook up to the new switch.Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 4x4 dash light

My vacuum lines were totally trashed and some weren't even there...so I did it this way:

In the Posi-Lok kit there should've been a connector with two terminals on the end of it.
You will need to take a wire and connect it to one of those terminals and run it to a ground. Personally, I drilled a hole in the "guard" for the actuartor motor and ran a ground wire to that with a ring terminal.

Up by the battery, to the right of it mounted on the firewall, there is a vacuum assembly type thing that has a black wire with a yellow stripe on it coming out of the vacuum assenbly. Cut that wire and run another wire from the other terminal on the Posi-Lok to it. Make sure you conenct it to the end of the wire NOT going to the vacuum assembly on the firewall.

When you pull the T-handle, the 4WD light should come on in the dash.

Also check to make sure you have a good bulb in that location on the dash as well.

Re: 4x4 dash light

Early XJ and YJ with disco front axle have a vacuum to electric relay that powers the dashboard 4wd light. That vacuum tube is the black one that was connected to the shift motor port closest to the differential. What you would need to do is connect that black hose to the yellow one that went to the shift motor. Once you do that, the light will come on when you shift the t'case into 4wd.
