T19 inna Jeep?

Has anyone used the T19 tranny and Dana 300 from a Scout in
conjunction with a 2wd Ford T19 to swap parts and run it in a Jeep?
I know that most people would run a T18,but I want syncroed 1st.
I have the Scout parts but could get the Ford parts easily enough.
That Scout input on the tranny is Massive!Thank you,

Bergy.

Re: T19 inna Jeep?

I have a 2wd Ford T-19 in my 84 CJ7 adapted to a Jeep Dana300 with Novak's kit. The kit includes an adapter to the transfer and a new shaft. Sorry I can't tell you much about the scout's T-19 or D300 stuff. Call Novak and speak with Eric if you can - they know a bunch about that stuff. I've been pretty happy with my t-19, it is quite a bear of a tranny - the gear steps are almost too far apart for my 258 to handle where I like to shift... just takes some getting used to after having a T-4 for so long. Let me know if there is anything else you might gain from my setup.
Good Luck.

Re: T19 inna Jeep?

Bergy-

I assume that you want to put this swap in your 72 CJ5. Unless you have access to a 1980 Scout II D300 and the output shaft gear, which is very rare, you will need an adaptor to bolt up the "round" D300. This will reduce a very short rear driveline. If you have any lift at all on the jeep vibrations may very well be a problem.

Only 36000 Scout II were built in 1980 and that was the end of the line for Scout production forever. The previous years had D20 x-cases. Mabe a Teralow kit for the D20?

Good Luck!

Re: T19 inna Jeep?

there used to be a guy on this BBS that was very keen on teh IH T19/Dana 20/18 swap.

he once told me which to look for, and how to drill the AMC bellhousing to bolt it up and such, I cant recall his name though , its been years.

You could probably do a search for IH T19 and get some info

Re: T19 inna Jeep?

I think this is the post that Ozark is refering to.

http://tellico.off-road.com/ubbthrea...mp;Main=613609

I would like to use a Scout (6.32) or may be Ford wide ratio (5.1) T-19 in place of my T-5 I could then replace my 3.54 axle gears with 3.08's and have about the same high gear with out over drive using a Scout T-19 low gear would actually improve but the gear spaceing would be much wider. Using a Ford (5.1) T-19 Low gear would stay about the same, the only difference to the T-5 would be that I would have 4 gears covering the range that before was covered by 5.
