Fel Pro torque settings?

A while back I made a post about torque settings on a 4.2L. I bought a Fel Pro Perma Torque head gasket (Perma torques do not require the usual retorquing & I hate shim gaskets) and it came with a guide, The fel pro torque guide contradicts itselfs (I think). They have torque settings for a AMC 258 and For a Jeep 258 the torque sequince is different from the AMC to the Jeep. While I know this is a AMC motor. I think I should use the settings under Jeep.

The AMC is 85 ft lbs. using torque seq. 2 in three steps, 12-8-4-1-5-9-13-11-7-3-2-6-10-14

The Jeeps is 85 ft lbs. using torque seq. 9 in three steps, 13-9-5-1-3-7-11-14-10-6-2-4-8-12

I tried to call FEL-PRO but can not get to anyone.

Which would you use?

Re: Fel Pro torque settings?

Start with the distributor side middle bolt, do the one on the other side of the block, then the bolt forward of that, it's opposite, then drop down to the back in a spiraling clockwise fashion.
That's how the "Mopar Jeep Engines" book sez to do it.

Re: Fel Pro torque settings?

I would do it the way felpro says to.They may have changed tourqe pattern because of the gasket design or to solve some sort of problem. The only time I would question it is if the torqe setting was differant.

Re: Fel Pro torque settings?

Looking at my handy Chiltons manual, the Fel-Pro has you doing it these ways:

(Left = Passenger side, Right = Driver Side.)
AMC: Front to back, left side - Front to back, right side.
Jeep: Back to front, left side - Back to front, right side.

Personally, I would use the "Jeep" pattern, but it doesn't seem like it would make much difference because the only thing changing is the direction that you move...either forward or backward.
