TSL / TSL SX ON Street

What's everyone's opinion or expierences with running normal ol` Super Swamper TSLs on the street?

They are bias ply .. just like the SX but no sidewall lugs like the SX... (I`m talkinga bout non-radial)

I found a place to get 38x12.5x16.5 for $171 a tire, and would like to get a set of new ones but if I can't drive em on the street daily then I can't use em...

I heard that for the first 5mins or so they will flop form the flatspot then get round again.. if that's all that happens that's not bad...

Any bad effects from running bias ply on the road??

thanks

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

Just a clarification, the SXs are steel belted, the regular TSLs have normal belts (fabric???)

My last set of tires were 33x15.5x15 TSL SXs. They got nasty flat spots from sitting over night, nothing that didn't go away within a few minutes of driving though. They were fine on the road, a little noisy (my 36" TSL Radials are louder), but definately driveable.

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

Well besides the fact that they will run extremely rough for the first say 20 minutes (until they get warmed up and round) and the fact that they won't last nearly as long as a radial, you should have no problems. Oh and don't forget they are going to be louder than a radial as well.

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

Doesn't sound too bad, and at night I can take 2mins to jackup with some floor jacks to prevent "some" flat spots..

Now I have to decide is the extra $50 a tire worth the SX over the normal TSL....???

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

I daily drive my tj on 32" sx's and don't mind it all that much. Flat spots happen but they go away. I love the side lugs on the sx, climbing out of muddy ruts isn't a problem any more with them. Get sx's and you won't be disapointed. The larger sx's have more out of round problems though, ask elusive.

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

Good to know..

I`m looking at either 38x12.5 or 38x14.x

Doesn't bother me much about the flat spots.. at night takeme a couple minst o jack up with floor jacks, and during the day when it sits for any period I have a 20min - 30min drive so it shuld flatten out..

Now I have to decide if I want to go 12.5 or 14.5 width!!

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

Why not just go with some 39.5x15x15, You will be the envy of all the street jeeps running around. Not 44's cause they are to damn expensive!

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

Go for the 14.5's. The 12.5's are just too skinny with a 38" diameter

The hard part about running 38 sx's is balancing them. I get a wobble at about 55. I haven't tried to balance them again.

Re: TSL / TSL SX ON Street

the only way I can drive my jeep with the 38.5'14.5 TSL/SX's in to keep the front tires under 11 psi.. otherwise the death wobble kills me...
now that Im getting my other set back, I'm going to mount them and see ifthey are better..
