258 fuel injection alternatives.

I am about to purchase the Mopar MPI kit for my 258. It seems that I could buy the componets from a junkyard or even a complete used engine for less than the kit and swap over what I need. Is this practical? I allready have the harmonic balancer for the FI so I will have to find a sensor to read off the balancer?

You can swap the head from a 4.0 with its harness, compter, throttle body, intake, injectors, fuel rails...do a search for 4.0 head swap and you'll find tons of useful information.

Re: 258 fuel injection alternatives.

I decided to go the 4.0 swap route(the whole engine). It should cost me about the same as the 258 FI kit by the time I'm done.

Re: 258 fuel injection alternatives.

I allready have the 4.0L head and the rest of the engine is freshly rebuilt. I am wondering if someone has swaped the injection without the kit and how difficult it was.

Re: 258 fuel injection alternatives.

I encourage you to do the search on this board using MPI conversion, FI conversion, 4.0 conversion, etc. A growing number of us have done it the hard way, that is by taking most from a donor vehicle. The hard part transer is not the problem, Oh, it there is plenty of work in that part also, but the major issue comes in the wiring from the donor to the destination vehicle. Again, there is much in previous discussions on these topics.
