cost of Dana 44 ???

Been searching for a while now and I know it is in here somewhere but I also ahve ot get some work done today so I can't search any longer........I found an 89 wagoneer front D44 within 50 miles of me for 225.00.
This is at a junk yard and I don't know any of the details on it but is that a decent price for a front 44??

Will junk yards let you break up a front axle as far as buying the housing and shafts but leaving knuckles and out from there? Or would it be better to just buy the whole thing? ( I am planning on doing a high steer so the knuckles and everything else need to be changed to ford and chevy parts and junking the waggy kncukles.)

Re: cost of Dana 44 ???

Dude thats a Rip Off
I got my whole housing, knuckles, etc. for $100.

Yes any good junk yard should let you pick apart the axles as needed, infact here in the Seattle area we have a yard called "Pull Apart" and thats exactly how it works you go in and pull what you want /need.

If you haven't gone to a yard I'd suggest going.

The flat top knuckles are probabally going to cost you a litle extra since we Jeepers covet them, but that doesn't mean the daels aren't out there, just keep looking!

Good Luck!

Re: cost of Dana 44 ???

Normal cost for a set of 44's around here is 400. That isn't a rip off seems right. Yeah if you wait long enough you can get a better deal, but if you dont want to wait its not bad.

Re: cost of Dana 44 ???

ive bought and sold them for anywhere between $20-$200 for a front 44

( the $20 was gas and beer money)

it depends on how freindly you are with your junkyard, and how close to crushing that Jeep with the 44 they are.

You guys are lucky as heck! If you all want to get rich load a flat bed semi trailer and bring them to Ohio. If you can find them here you are lucky and when you do they want 400-500.

Re: cost of Dana 44 ???

Okay, where is the pull apart yard? I havent dealt much with the yard around here because they want to pull the parts for "Insurance reasons". then they charge 10% less than new.
Im near Tacoma, and have been considering a Dana 44 for quite awhile. Im definately interested in flat tops though.

Re: cost of Dana 44 ???

I'm looking for takers on a pair of '78 Cherokee Wide-Trac D44 axles. That makes them around 65" wide. '78 should have the flat-top knuckles too. $300 for the pair, with brakes. I'm in FL though...

Re: cost of Dana 44 ???

Is the rear diff centered? I have a Dana 44 in the rear of my cj-7, so Im mostly interested in the front, but it would be nice to have a matching set of axles as far as the width goes.
Do you have Forward Air near you?
