White smoke comming off the pcv ???

First of all I want to say Hi to everybody on line from the sunny caribbean!!! Next to my question, I did a search on the subject but I didnt get any one close to my question(I am new and maybe I did something wrong). The thing is that I am fixing a 82 CJ-7 with the 258 inline 6 and when I thought I have everything fixed I and starting to get this white smoke from the PVC and the other hole in top of the valve cover(and it is a lot of somke), will this mean that I lost a ring on one cylinder??? or maybe is just the head gasket the problem??? Tks for any help on this matter.

Re: White smoke comming off the pcv ???

White smoke usually means that water is getting into the combustion chamber - usually from a bad head gasket, sometimes from a cracked head.

There is an electronic analyzer that can detect the presence of exhaust gasses in the radiator. See if you can find one and do the test.

Other ways to detect a combustion chamber leak are by the presence of bubbles coming up in the radiator, and sometimes oil will show up in there as well.

What Jim said -
Depending on how much smoke and where it is blowing from -
when you say "a lot" What is a lot? ...like the amount a cigar would make? ...maybe burning leaves? Is it heavy smoke like burning or light maybe more like steam? Does it smell like anything? ...coolant ...oil ...burnt ...sweet ...?
Is smoke blowing from anywhere else? If only from the PCV and breather... this indicates too much pressure in the crank case. Most common is blow-by or coolant leak.

as reference - I had '89 258 that would blow white smoke (light amount of light smoke) from breather and PCV. Also bunch of oil from the breather. This engine was just plain worn out... compression test found all cylinders way low. Drain oil was watery and smelled of gasoline.

Would be good to have compression check also.
