transfer case 4x4

I have a 78 -7 with 304 and t-18 tranny. My jeep will only drive in 4x4 mode. I have tried all the others.. 4x4 low, high and so forth. Why wont it engage in 2 wd??? Both drive shafts are turning at the same time meaning it is in 4x4 mode correct? FYI I just put in a new sliding yoke and u-joints on my rear drive shaft.

I think if your drive shaft is moving, its doesn't nessesarily mean it is 4 wheel drive. the ony way I would find out and find loose dirt and floor it. haha

Re: transfer case 4x4

If you have manual hubs, make sure they are unlocked. If you have vacuum auto hubs, check the vacuum. If the hubs are locked in, the front axle and drive shaft will turn but the drive shaft isn't necesarily getting power from the T-case.

If your rear driveshaft is spinning in 2 high, it sounds like you have spun a rear hub.
