What breaks first, the housing or the shaft?

If you are running a D30, AMC20 combo what is your biggest concern? Is upgrading to Waggy 44's a good idea mostly for housing strength or for axle and u-joint strength? Just curious as to how much of a beating the stock running gear can take with a 360 and 35's because I don't mind changing out axle shafts periodically, but I don't want the housing to come apart on the highway.

1. you will spin the 2 pc amc 20 rear axle hubs off
2. you will break the crappy 260-x front axle u-joints taking the shafts with it.
3. you will break the amc 20 axle housing..or break the plug welds

I put a 5.0 in mine and the first thing to go was the crappy rear yoke strap bolts! I am going with a 3/4 ton 44 and 14 bolt.

I agree with Lumpy, the u-bolt straps will be the first to let go, they suck.

I also spun a 2 piece axle behind a 4 cyl engine, they also suck.

Re: What breaks first, the housing or the shaft?

I havent seen a hub spin yet- one CJ powered by a SBC 350 one powered by a 258 and now a 360. I havent been in the game too long tho- But i whole hearted ly agree that those U-joint straps are miserable. I cant tell you how many times we've grenated those. i can think of three times that I've replaces those straps. the 360 destroyed the driveshaft recently too.
