OT- finally got orders to california

It's not TOTALLY official, but I have the dates in hand. I will be assigned to MCAS Mirmar (San Diego). I report in May/June of next year. Exactly the orders I wanted. hmmm.. think my stroker will pass emissions???
for sure going to have to sell my 77 f-250
I'm going to try to "wheel across the US" on the way out there...I want to take a month, stopping at many good wheeling spots as we go.

Re: OT- finally got orders to california

Glad to see you got what you wanted, should put you in a prime location for soome good wheeling, hope your not looking for any mud. I've got a buddy up at NAS China Lake (north of Lancaster) He loves being close to the Hammers.

Re: OT- finally got orders to california

its really the best of everything for me.. I dont have to stay, and I get to go out there to check it out for 3-4 years. at that point I'll have to go to where ever I'll want to retire for my final duty station. the wheeling out there is a BIG reason I wanted to go..

Cool, some of my wheeling buddies live near San Diego. Of course, you do realize what 3-4 years of wheeling the Hammers is gonna do to that TJ right?

As far as the smog stuff goes, you gotta love those registration exemptions for active duty military.

Many cops don't know about them, so when your NC tags expire pick up a copy of the handbook from DMV so you can show them the rule.

You are LUCKY !

I lived in San Diego 10 years ago and believe me I still miss it !
Don't even think you'll ever want to move again !
That's where I bought my CJ back then and where I went wheeling with it firts time. That's where it all started for me !
good luck

Re: OT- finally got orders to california

I may look at going out there in the next couple of years,....I'm not sure, the wife and I are talking about Okinawa too,.....go there save up money big time,.....then retire,...unfortunately, there's no wheeling in Oki and I won't be able to bring any of my toys, storage for three years will suck.

Re: OT- finally got orders to california

I live about 10 miles from Miramar, 5 miles in my Jeep. The registration is no big deal for military because you can keep your registration from your state of origin. The price of housing is outrageous. So if you can score military housing you better start now.

1) Keep your vehicles registered in NC

Have fun out there, I spent 3 1/2 years in the stumps, that's where i built my first 78 cj-5 and bought my 73 cj-5 and my 66 stang (both for a steal) lots of fun, lots of wheeling, lots of good parts floating around.
