Jeep Vandalism

For the third time since I moved to my place in June...
I came out this morning to discover that someone had tried to steel my sterio last night. The didn't get it because it is bolted in from the back (so it can't be stolen) But in the process of tring they broke my dash.
Eariler this summer I had someone break into my console (they broke the latch and lock) and took about 30 CDs (it was a stupid mistake to leave them in there I usally take them out just forgot that night) And another time someone broke into my console again (after I had fixed latch and lock) This time they didn't take anything, cause there wasn't anything in there except a Map, and tape. So back I went to fix the console again. Then last night Bang! busted dash. That makes me so upset.
I have been giving thought to swapping in a CJ dash, maybe this is the boost I needed, because a new YJ dash pieces are probably really hard to find and expencive. What a bummer.

Re: Jeep Vandalism

how frequent are these break-ins? how far is your vehicle from where you park? can you see the vehicle from your window(s)? assuming you have a pc in your home, buy a x10 mini camera system and put it in the window pointing at your car. sounds like these break-ins might be the same group of a-holes, if so... they will be back. or you could sleep in your car with a baseball bat.

this kind of crime angers me.

Re: Jeep Vandalism

That would be a pretty good Idea about the camera. I have been living in this appartment since June 1, it is now almost Oct 1, less than 4 months, three break ins. As a rule I don't leave anything in there. You can see our parking area from two windows in the house. It is right there, like get out of Jeep take 5 steps and Im in the house.
Like I said I don't leave anything in there, it doesn't really bother me too much that people go thorough it. I just wish that they would stop breaking things. The dash really bumms me out.
If I had the money, and a computer at home I think I would try the camera thing. But I don't. Oh well it's almost hard top season.

Re: Jeep Vandalism

You could also use a camcorder. Reuse the film each night as to minimize cost, and maybe you can borrow the camcorder. Another idea to get them to stop breaking your console is to leave it unlocked if there is nothing in there. If they want a map that bad then let them have it with no damage to you. The stereo thing really sucks, but kudos to you for bolting it in from the rear! Next time rig it up so that it'll electrocute whoever tries to steal it .

Re: Jeep Vandalism

Dang man, you've got some serious theft problems up there. You sure you didnt piss anyone off? I had a similar experience with my old T-Bird before i was able to sell it. It got broken into 2x in one week. the tried to steal it, but the battery was dead. So they just proceded to tear apart the interior. Have ya called th cops and reported the break ins? I'd go ahead and get them out there for fingerprinting so they have something on file. In the meantime, bust out the camcorder.

Re: Jeep Vandalism

Yes it is true that my profile says NE VT. That is where my Dog lives. (that is the true test of where to call home) My parents house is there, and I called that home base for the last few years while I was at school. I haven't actually lived there for a few years. (But I still call it home, I am there a few times a month) I Actually live in Burlington VT. And I live in the "NORTH END" the north end is where the rent is cheap.
I hope that this doens't in any way miscontrue how anyone feels about VT. It is safe and beautiful just like you hear about. I just live in a place where there is a lot of punk kids who wanna be gangsters. For every one time that someone breaks into my jeep I probably get about 500 complments. Just today on my way to work I got two. One guy at a cross walk came up while I was waiting at a light and said. "Hey, I really like your Jeep, nice ride man" 99.9% of the people in VT and in Burlington are just great. It really is a friendly and beautiful as you hear.

Re: Jeep Vandalism

I had my jeep broken into (I guesse not 'broke' since there were no doors on it) and it just happened that I had forgotten my wallet in there.. The part that really makes me want to bust heads is the lack of respect for the vehicle itself.. People will destroy anything for a few bucks.. They got about $27, but they took the whole wallet including personal stuff, like pictures of my niece & nefew, and an american $1 that I have carried around for 7 years (Don't ask..). It's gonna cost me over $100 to replace all my ID.

Take the money, I don't care.. Take my stereo, I don't care.. But leave my ID, and personal stuff !!!

Rant over...

Re: Jeep Vandalism

I can assure you there there are no gangs in VT. And if you move to burlington you will love it. That really sucks about loosing all your ID and everything. That is what kills me too. The total lack of respect. I couldn't even begin to think of how many hours and busted knuckels I have in that jeep. All of my roommates drive every day run of the mill cars. None of them even change their own oil. (I do it for them) and their cars are left untouched. They just pick my jeep because of the no walls and roof thing. That is what really gets me.
