Affects of large tire
I just bought a new TJ, its only the 2.5 liter 4 banger and I have some questions. I want to do a 3" lift and 33" tires, What will be the affects of these tires on my gas mileage and will I even be able to keep up with traffic? It is my only vehicle so I need it for on and off road use (I will however be getting MT's) If these tires are to large for economical perposes I will get 31"s or 32"s, I'f I decide to go with smaller than 33" what height lift should I get??? I would appreciate any help.

Re: Affects of large tire
As long as you regear you wont have any problems

Re: Affects of large tire
I would go with 4.56's in your axels. They are still relativily strong, and you get a little bit of extra grunt. I run 33X12.5 Tsl's with the 2.5L I still have the stock 4.1 R&P and as long as I don't use 5th gear I don't really have any complants. A Jeep is not a race car. I love to play in the mud, and I do miss the power there.

I'm running pretty much the same set up 33" TSL's,2.5L I went to a 4.88 R&P just to get 5th gear back. I figured if i'm turning 2800rpm's I may as well be going faster.

Re: Affects of large tire
Well atleast your stock gears ar 4:10's, so you're a little better off than some others with high [censored] gears. My YJ had 3.07's stock!!

You can use my gear ratio calculator to figure exactly what gear ratio you will need to get your power back. All you need to know is your old and new tire radius.

Well I also drive a 2.5 but I have 31's on it, yes I can notice a little reduction in speed but its not enough to bug me, anyway I might get a 77 CJ5 2marow anyway.

Re: Affects of large tire
Funny post because if you worry about gas mileage the Jeep should be the last vehicle on your list...

Re: Affects of large tire
I had this same concern about a week after I bought my CJ and realized that the gas milage sucked. But then through some counseling on this board and some self help, I realized that gas milage isn't that big of a deal. The fact that I have the baddest and meanest lookin CJ around makes it all worth while, and I love that scared look in peoples mirrors when I'm behind them.
