Fuel vapor lines w/ pic

Since I've been having trouble w/ my 4.0 MPI kit cutting out after about 60 miles, there has been a lot of suggestions regarding the tank vapors not escaping. I did some searching under the mud and found that a hose was broken off of my liquid check valve at the rear of my Jeep. The line in question is circled below.

Does this line go directly to the charcoal canister? What is it's function in making the check valve work? How can I tell if the check valve is still functioning properly? Although I don't hear a whisking sound of air rushing into my tank when I remove the gas fill cap, this could be a piece of the puzzle.

Re: Fuel vapor lines w/ pic

OK sorta answerd my owne question, but two sections later in the Haynes manual it shows this line going to the rollover check valve, which on my jeep apears to be busted -ie the bottom half is not there! Would this cause the system to build up too much pressure or would it by-pass it all? Also, where can I get a new one?

I don't know exactly how it relates to your 4.0 problem, but I was able to buy a brand new one for my 84 CJ-7 at the Jeep dealership, and I don't think it was outrageously expensive, either..

Re: Fuel vapor lines w/ pic

ummm hopefully i can help here. I dont know what year your jeep is but on both jeeps that i have owned (both 78s) The third line from the RCV was "broken". The reason for that beeing that the third line simply hangs off the RCV and is a vent. It doesnt go any where but the fender well. There should be another valve up there too call the LCV (liquid check valve). That is the one that connects from the carcaol canister. There should be a line coming all the way back from the canister to connect to that thing. Hope i helped- Tim
