soft top winter storage - on or off?

well... i live in NY and the trees are already starting to turn brown and yellow. Winter is coming. What is the best way to store my soft top? The owners manual says never put the hardtop on when the soft top is installed (obviously). How about when the softtop is in the "down" position or how about putting a softtop boot on before reinstalling the hardtop for the winter or should i remove the softtop all together? thanks

The dealership told me to remove it immediately if it's not going to be used because the vibration from driving will wear spots where it rubs against itself and eventually destroy the top. The best thing to do is just take it off.

Yeah, take it off, fold it up and store it someplace dry. make sure it is 100% dry when you store it. I keep mine under my bed for the summer (when I use no top) and in the winter (When I used the Hard Top) But find it is just right on those cold fall and spring days.

Re: soft top winter storage - on or off?

Try to lay the windows flat if you can. I lay a towel or a cloth between them for added protection. Dirt and any floor vibration will take a toll on them by spring if there is any dirt on them and they are stacked up without the towel. (I admit that I am a little anal about protecting my windows.) Don't put them any place that the top can mildew. In some places like western Oregon & Washington, that can mean not in the garage.

Good Luck!

Not to mention it's a PITA to get around in the back of the TJ.
