Coolant overflow question - how much is enough?

Hey all,

I need a new overflow can for my CJ. I have a chevy 305 with jeep/chevy radiator, I found a moroso overflow can real cheap. However it only holds 1 quart. Is that enough? I don't want to use a stock setup. Thanks

The setup I've got going in my CJ for the 304 is an old anti-freeze jug (1 gal) zip tied to the left fender near the firewall. Its cheap and it works. Just an idea.

I used a liter "sports" bottle on my hot running 304 with good results. The radiator likes to be down about 3/4" from the top and will puke until it gets to that level . After that, the size is fine. HTH

A quart should be fine. I have a generic one that you can get at any parts store. I'm sure its not more than a quart.
Just fill the tank up about half way and let the engine go through a couple heating/cooling cycles. If its empty after it cools fill it up about half way again. Just keep doing that till you get to the point where the reservoir always has some coolant in it.
