Engine color will it clash?

I am painting my Jeep red and doing the bumpers and bars in silver. I originally wanted to do this theme in Red/yellow but my wife said she would not ride in it (it would look like a Ronald Mcdonald jeep)(And before anyone say it.... I thought about just doing it anyway!!!LOL :-).

I have already painted the motor bright yellow with POR15 engine paint and wonder do you think it would look ok. I have tried to justify it by saying it would be easier to see things under the hood..... What do you guys think?

I think painting the block is great. It makes the vehicle much more attractive when you lift that hood. Right now mine looks like a mess of wires and some road dirt. I hope to clean off the block and restore it back to its original baby blue. I say go for it. Instead of red, why not blue? It will look great with the yellow and won't look like Ronaldy.

Mine's pontiac blue...under the mud....I wouldn't worry about the color there unless you are far more religious about cleaning under the hood then I am! *grin*

Re: Engine color will it clash?

Here is one thing to remember... That paint likes to trap in heat. If your motor usually runs warm, do not paint it. If it stays rather cool, then it's fine, and it also looks awesome too! Right now my Jeep runs warm, so until I take care of that I wouldn't dream of painting my block. I once painted the block in my race truck, which likes to run really warm, and that was a huge mistake. Back then I was racing pro arena trucks, so the runs are much shorter (20-30 second runs), and after every pass it was overheating like nothing else. I stripped off the paint eventually (if it can be avoided, DO NOT DO THAT! ) and it then ran fine. Stayed nice and cool at about 220 degrees and never overheated. Though it was still trapping in some of the heat from where the paint was I suppose. I put in a new motor from JASPER and that only ran at about 180-200 degrees. So moral of the story is: if it runs warm, don't paint the block unless you make some changes so that it runs cooler. Just my two cents based on my past experience.

Re: Engine color will it clash?

I thought the engine color was supposed to clash with the body color.

When I rebuilt mine I paited baby blue, but you can't really see the paint under the leaking valve cover and the mud and road grime!!

Re: Engine color will it clash?

Sir Isaac Newton, physics guru, legend and just a great guy proved that you can gain 10-15 HP by painting the engine dark Ford blue. Therefore all my engines get painted this color. How did the POR stuff work? I have a can (of Ford blue of course) ready for my engine but haven't painted it yet. Is one can enough?
