a little weekend carnage

well i broke my front dana 60 for the first time this weekend. i broke the 30 spline stub shaft that ended up takeing out the lockout. also after i took it apart i found that my 35 spline inner shaft is starting to twist at the splines. i guess the 42's are too much even for a 60. anyway here are some pic

Re: a little weekend carnage

WTF !!!!!!
I just did the 35 spline outers. I am now thinking 40" tires really are max for the D60.
Brian, what were the circumstances on the breakage???
Thanks, Ricky...seeya...

Re: a little weekend carnage

well i broke the 30spline outer while backing up a pretty good hill/ledge/wash. i do not think that is the only reason it snapped. i am sure it was already stresses and twisted from other beatings. backing up the hill was just the last straw. the 30 spline stub is one thing but i am really puzzled buy the twisted splines on the 35 spline inner! hey i know that since i have been running my 1tons i have started playing pretty hard but i htough these thinks were going to last! i really want a full set of alloy shafts, a set of ctm's, and a set of 35 spline warn flanges (if they make them). when the shafts come out i will be buying a full set. it'll cost some $$$ but with all of the good things i hear about running alloys and ctm's in a d44 i do not think i'll be breaking a d60.....heck i didn't think i'd be breaking one now. what really sucks is it messed up my spindle when it broke too. anyone have a d60 spindle they want to sell? or a used set of 30 spline hubs or wheel flanges?

Re: a little weekend carnage

Moser can make you some 40 spline ones, and they have a spool that works with 40 spline... just another though...

Re: a little weekend carnage

elusive, i have heard that the 35spline warn hubs are somewhat of a weak point. that is why i plan to run drive flanges when i do get 35spline outers. because yours is a dd i'm not sure i would not stick with lockouts for your rig though.
