How long after rebuild till i can tow?

Hello all,
I just finished the install on my Votec 350 into my Chevy 1/2 ton. I completely rebuilt it and was wondering how long should I wait before I used it to tow the Jeep? thanks, Wade

IMHO, it shouldn't take much break in. Towing a Jeep isn't going to be a huge strain on the 350. as long as you're not thinking of hours of steady 70 MPH on the freeway. I'd wait 500 to 1,000 miles, change oil, and put it to work. Vary the speed and load for a while, and it should be fine.

Re: How long after rebuild till i can tow?

I called a long time friend and engine builder last nite after the post. He told me after putting it in start it up and run it for 20 mins. @ 2000 rpm to seat the rings. Then change the oil. Drive it 100 miles, in town, on the hiway all sorts of rpm. then change the oil again. then do whatever with it.
He used to work for GM, and has raced about anything with an engine in it so I trust him. Thanks fellas
