When was AC first an option?

I'm tyring to find out when AC was first aviailable as an option. Also, I'd like to know if there is an online timeline of when other options were added...like when PS, PB, AC...etc. I'm looking to purchase an older CJ, but I want to know which options were avilable when, so I know what to be looking for. Thanks all.

Re: When was AC first an option?

If I've learned nothing else while owning an old CJ is that they rarely have what was stock. As something new came out, they were often added to older models.

That said, I think that A/C became a real option with the CJ7, but that is pure conjecture.

I'd look into what you want on your Jeep and use that to search. Jeeps aren't like regular cars, they get WAY more variety of modifications.

Don't know about CJs but a 89 YJ I use to have came with it from the factory. They hang from the bottom of the dash and look like they are aftermarket.

Re: When was AC first an option?

My 79 CJ7 came with AC. This winter I plan to remove everything but the compressor. The AC part will get installed in my pickup with another compressor. The Jeep's compressor will get used for OBA.

Re: When was AC first an option?

The first year for A/C on the CJ series was 1975.

Power steering and power breakes were an option on the CJ starting in 1972.

I love Jeep trivia, any other questions?

BIG changes happened in the '71/'72 years, but there are other options and changes made after that time. Check out http://www.off-road.com/jeep/swb/articles/specgrid.htm for some info on engines, trannies, transfers, and axles.
