Faster Wipers!

well i was driving home today in my wrangler in a very nice thunderstorm, the rain was pouring down so fast that my slow windshield wipers just couldnt keep up making it very hard to see. a friend of mine once had this problem with his firebird and he figured out a way to "trick" his wipers in to going faster, anyways my friend is now in the air force so it would be very hard to get a hold of him, so would anyone here have a easy way to speed them up other than spending a lot of money?

Re: Faster Wipers!

I had the same problem on the current CJ5 - I cleaned and oiled all the linkage, and replaced the motor, all of a sudden, it was like a brand new Jeep (the wipers anyway).

1. Welcome to the froum.
2. Thanks for filling out the profile. A name would be nice!
3. As to the wipers:
a. The wipers a "pulsed" to start.
b. Timed for duration.
c. There is no inexpensive way to make them go faster.
4. You could either re-gear the drive.
5. Or replace the drive motor with a faster one.
6. Both options are unreasonable in cost and time.
7. Keep the wiper linkage nice and lubed (evry 6 mos.).
8. Use Rain-X to help shed the water.
9. Stiffen the <a target="_blank" href=http://tellico.off-road.com/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&amp;Board=offroadjeepshort&a mp;Number=824095&amp;Search=true&amp;Forum=offroad jeepshort&amp;Words=wiper%20arm%20snow&amp;Match=A nd&amp;Searchpage=0&amp;Limit=25&amp;Old=allposts& amp;Main=823904>wiper springs</a> to help keep the wpers on the windshield at highway speed.

Re: Faster Wipers!

I'm with LEVE, use Rain-X. Most of the time I don't even need the wipers with it.
