Re: is it street legal to lower windshield

As long as you have side mirrors, you should be able to do this. Be warned, that if you were to get in an accident, they may be able to hold that against you though. As for everyday driving, mine has been down most of the summer...

To add, I would imagine you would be required to wear some sort of eye protection as you do on a motorcycle with no/little windshield. I'm sure it varies from state to state as well.

I remember hearing somewhere that it is illegal but I could be wrong. I reccomend checking with your state authorities and getting in writing what the law is. If you get pulled over for having the windshield down and the state says it is legal then you shouldn't have any problems. Some cops like to make up laws when they don't know what the real law is. Let us know if when you find out.

I assume you're in MA from your user name. I'm in NH, and while driving in MA have seen Jeeps with their windshields folded down. At a minimum, you'll need two outside mirrors and eye protection.

2 corrects, at least in NC...you have to have visible mirrors and some sort of eye protection i.e. goggles, welding hood...whatever!

Ahhh Cape Cahd ..how 'bout a profile? How fah ah yah frum heah? (when I visit NE ..I regain my accent very quickly)

I agree with Nick about cops making up their own laws. I had a PA state trooper pull me over for having my tailgate off (tight wad fuel squeezer) on a pickup I owned a while back. He didn't write me ..but warned me if he saw it off again he'd write me. This doesn't make sense given the commercial designation of the vehicle. If I had a slide in camper the tail gate would be off anyway ..if I had a flatbed ..there would be no tail gate. Heck as long as you have mud flaps ..you can drive it without a bed on it (like the tractor without a trailer). The trooper even stated that those mesh or "fenced" tailgates were illegal as well.

Basically I think that he was just in the mood to bust some ball$ and I was a target of opportunity.

It is legal, but shatter proof eyewear is rquired at speeds over 25 or 35mph in Michigan. basically the motorcycle laws apply, with exception of the helmet.
