Opinions Please, Tuff Country Suspension On YJ

A friend of my brothers is looking to replace a 2" body lift with a tuff country 3-1/2" spring lift on a 94 YJ. He complains the body lift has made the ride horrible.

I say it dosn't affect the ride, the spring lift will affect it, probably to the negative unless a high quality spring is used. What is everyones experience with Tuff Country?

BTW, I have no experience with body lifts, just what I have read on this and other sites. Also, this is not heavily off-roaded, I believe a stock YJ would go easily anywhere this goes. (heck, even a stock ford ranger)

Your experiences would be appreciated.

I have a Tuff Country 2 1/2" heavy duty lift on my '82 CJ5. My lawnmower rides smoother than my Jeep and my son's wagon flexes better also. Of course the springs are 15-20% stiffer than stock! They would be great for heavy loads, but they leave a lot to be desired on the rocks.

I have the Tuff Country 2 1/2" heavy duty lift also, on my CJ7. I didn't notice the ride being much harsher than stock; I'm pretty happy with it. Don't have much in the way of serious rock crawling around here, though.

How old are your lifts, and do you know the manufacturer of the springs?

Has Tuff country updated their spings?

Last time I checked, Rusty's 4x4 made TuffCountry springs. I hate Rusty's, his parts are junk. Does that answer your question?

I put my lift on 5 or 6 years ago. I don't know who made the springs, but I have been pleased with them. Again, the only thing I have to compare them to is the way it rode with the stock springs, and I have no complaints.

You will pay for your ride. If you get cheap springs it will ride like a tank, get more high dollar springs it will ride like a caddy. My Skyjacker was a major improvemnt in ride quality on my YJ.

I also had Tuff country 4" springs on my CJ a while back and they were the stiffest springs I have ever seen, or felt!!
My 4" Skyjackers were too soft so I added a leaf and all is well.

Cheap usually = junk when it comes to springs. Tuff Country is perfect example.

You said you had a 4" skyjacker which was too soft. Did they sag or were they just too soft? I am thinking about putting their 2" on my SOA CJ5.
