Gear Oil Question

Hey,

Just got a question about gear oil. What weight/type does everybody use in their axles and which lockers.

Does it matter if you have a certain type of locker?

I always see limited slip, etc and just thought I would ask.

Thanks.

Re: Gear Oil Question

80/90 gear oil seems to work fine for me with a detroit locker. Heavier oils quiet lockers more than lighter oils. Good especially for lockright and ez-lockers. Limited slips you need to follow the manufacturers instructions as they often need specific additives to the oil.

Re: Gear Oil Question

The limited slips just require a friction modifier because they have clutches that need friction to work. Lockers and open diffs don't need it. I use 80/90 in my dana 30/44 with lockrights too.

Re: Gear Oil Question

I run 75W-90 Mobil-1 in my D44's with lockrights. I also run it in my Trooper and TJ, both with LSD (and yes, you still need the friction modifier).
