Proper lube for shackles?

I pulling my shackles bushings this weekend to grease. Should I be using a specific type of grease that works better than others for this? I've heard of people using molybdenuim (sp?) grease.

I live in the Poteau area.

I failed to mention my bushings are urethane.

Re: Proper lube for shackles?

I dont have fancy greaseable shackle bolts, so I use anti-seize on the bolt and bushings. Seems to stay on a little longer than grease.

I used silicone .... boy it sure holds the dust. Because that's what I had when I changed the bushings. Always wondered what I should have used, if anything. I'm answering this just to put it back on top to see if anyone answers.

I don't know if you've done them already but I use white lithium grease on my urethane bushings.

Re: Proper lube for shackles?

Go to pepboys and get a couple of tubes of synthenic grease. I have been really lazy on my maintance lately and havent greased the cj since march. The bushings are still as quiet as they where when i first started using synthenic. With dinosaur grease i would have to grease the shackles every month to keep them quiet. Also spend the money and get the greasble bolts. Its much easier then taking them apart to grease them.

I use a Moly type grease. CENEX brand of course! Daystar says they want white lithium grease to be used in there bushings, but that stuff dries out so fast and squeeks worse than if you hadn't greased them at all!

On a side note, I thought ORC had outlawed animated images...sorry, but it's distracting.
