Axle Swap Help

I've got a 63 CJ-6 with worn out axles and drivetrain & two 86 Grand Wagoneers for parts--360,Auto,Quadratrack,Dana 44 axles.Has anyone swapped Wagoneer axles into a CJ? I can use the longer drivetrain because the CJ-6 has 101" wheelbase, but don't know about the fullsize axles.Anything can be done with enough money, but I don't want to break the bank with modifications to the axles, just want to hook them up and roll if it can be done! Thanks, for any information.

Re: Axle Swap Help

I am going to be putting some waggie axels under my YJ. It is a pretty good swap. Just a matter of putting the spring perches in the right spot, and the shock mounts. A welder will put them on for you at a good cost if you have them marked and ready to go. Then there is the matter of getting the front steering all squared away.

Re: Axle Swap Help

you need to do a search to get the full story Eugene.

Ill get you started.

the front axle differential is on teh wrong side of your wag front axles for your cj6 , unless your planning to swap the transfercase withsomething else.

also the axle are wider than your stock axles, so youll have to outboard your spring mounts or narrow the axles.

Re: Axle Swap Help

and if these are 86's waggy's.. then they do not have quadratrac's in them.. they have a TF727 in them.. which is by far a better tranny.. and a center diff rear axle..
but yes.. the front is on the wrong side.. i would swap the whole drivetrain.. i have waggy axles in my jeep.. they are nice.. not too wide.. and not too narrow...

Re: Axle Swap Help

Jeep used the quadratrac name in the 80's. It's an NP transfer case with a centered rear output instead of the original offset rear output BW transfer case.

The original quadratracs used the TH400 trans in front of them which is equal to or better than a TF727.

Re: Axle Swap Help

This is more like it!What major problems did you encounter putting the Wagoneer axles under a Jeep--If I do this I'll be swapping the entire drivetrain. Also,I just assumed it was a Q-trac,the rear axle is centered. It was parked in front of my shop(one dent in the tailgate)UNTIL some D-[censored] T-boned it into the truck parked behind it & bent all but two doors. Then took off in the middle of the night!!Thought I might get some use out of the parts if I can.I figured if it could be done, someone here had done it.

Re: Axle Swap Help

Try these. I'm going to swap my axels out and the front is comming from a '76 waggie.

Also, does anybody have any pics of outboarded spring perches on a waggie d44? The other clicky link had a hyper-link saying it was going to show pics, but I couldn't get it to work. This might be a better idea for me than cutting the axles!

Re: Axle Swap Help

Do a search for outboarded springs, it has been discussed a lot here in the past, with pics.
