Advise proper towing technics for a \'84 CJ7

I have a '84 CJ7 with manual hubs and manual tranny. I have always been told to tow with hubs in 4X2, tranny in neutral, and transfer case in neutral. Having just seen a '84 CJ7 operators manual, it states: hubs in 4X4 for axle lubrication, tranny in gear, and transfer case in neutral.
1) won't hubs lube regardless?
2) Why tranny in gear?
3) Does anyone do this?

I think the reason for having the hubs locked in is, it will rotate the front shaft and sling oil around in the D300. If the rear shaft was the only one turning you would not get proper lubrication and would eventually burn it up.

I have never understood the tranny in gear thing though. If the transfercase is in neutral the transmission is disconnected. I don't see what difference it would make.

2. I suspect you didn't bother to completely read the "sticky" post at the top of the Forum Messages directed to all new users.

The tranny in gear is the same thing as the t-case. If the tailshaft starts spinning, and it can with the t-case in neutral, without the cluster turning the rear bearing doesn't get oil.
