Transmission mount bolts

For about the fourth time in a row, I have slid under my CJ-7 to find the bolts that hold the trans mount bracket to the transmission have worked themselves out. Sometimes they are on the skid plate, other times, they are gone. I always use grade 8 bolts, lock washers, slather them with lock-tite, and cranck them into the transmission at around 60 ftlbs. They seem to only stay in there for 3 or 4 outings before they work themselves out. Does anyone else have this problem? Since they are such a B**** to get back in, it's driving me nutz, soon I will be reaching for the welder.......

Re: Transmission mount bolts

There's probably some oil in the holes that prevents the LockTite from holding. Clean out the holes and bolts with some brake cleaner before you reinstall them with LockTite.

DON'T WELD THEM IN!

Re: Transmission mount bolts

If all else fails, get the bolts with the holes in the heads and wire tie them. Keep the wire away from the rubber and the case if it's aluminum.
