OT Grand Cherokee \"tinkling\" noise

One of my co-workers asked me to look at her engine since it was making a squeaking noise.

She has a '97 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L six. It does squeak, or rather it tinkles, kinda like VERY small high pitched metalic tapping. It only does this after warming up. It sounded like it was coming from the intake manifold.

Any ideas?

Fritz

Heat shielding rattling? We have that exact '97 ZJ and it doesn't do that.

Re: OT Grand Cherokee \"tinkling\" noise

Mine does this on my '96 ZJ, as do many other 4.0l Jeeps. Almost like a valve clatter or something. I've always been told not to worry about it, as it doesn't hurt anything. I don't like that repsonse, but I've gotten it many times.

My Thunderbird does the same sort of thing and I'm pretty sure its liquid dripping on the exhaust pipe somewhere. Also, the water from the AC drains right by one of the cats so the pinging sound can be frequent.

Just a thought,

Sean
