kickdown adj 90 yj with 3 speed automatic

manuel says to hold arm forward and eliminate all lash. The tranny goes thru all 3 gears by 20 mph. Tranny shop says to push pedal to floor and push rod back 1/8 from end of travel and then eliminate lash. Which one is right?

to make it hold on longer in gear, tighten the mechanism.

that is make the tranny rod move with less throttle pressure than there is now.

I always though the manual was a little wordy on this adjustment.
