Holley 390 and Offenhauser intake install

Working on a 82 CJ 7 Frame up resto. I bought a Offenhauser intake and 390 Holley carb and was wondering if anyone had installed this on a 258 4.2l. I was also talking to someone at a swap meet this weekend and they were telling me about a head swap on the jeep that increases the Hp. I thought long and hard about going to a small block chevy with a 700 r4 but there is just something about keeping the jeep somewhat original that appeals to me. The 258 is totally rebuilt with all new guts and before I sit it in I want to do it right. Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

I did. I liked it but when the second 258 wore out I went with a SBC TPI. If you haven't gotten that far yet, I found a nice plate at a speed shop that bolts under the carb to make the throttle cable hookup a cinch.

Did you have any trouble with clearance on the booster? My game plan was to put one in out of a S10. I would be interested in finding out more about the throttle plate though.

No clearance problems, had power brakes. The plate is just a sheet of aluminum that bolts under the carb and has a place to hold the outer throttle cable jacket.

You do understand that the carb mounts sideways.
