New to off-road

I just purchased a Jeep Saraha and am new to the world of off-road use. Does anyone have a recommendation of a book that explains the best way to handle a Jeep off road. (I plan to start with the easy trails!!)

Thanks.

Re: New to off-road

Well, can you please fill out your profile, it helps us in answering questions of this nature. Your geographic location kinda dictates what type of wheeling you'd like to do, and what to look for. I have some publications on wheeling, they're older (70's), but great for reference and to look at the pristine pictures of older vehicles.

In any case, just start out slow, get with a club if you can, and above all, just have fun. Don't get caught in the macho stuff, learn to take a strap without any ego, and for goodness sake, don't modify and spend money until you are ready and know why you're doing it.

1. Welcome to the Forum.
2. Please complete your profile as a courtesy to your fellow Jeepers.
3. Most books and articles I've seen are almost trail specific.
4. The best way to learn to drive Off-Road is to do it.
5. Join a Local 4X4 club in your area.
6. Going out a few times with the Veterans of Off-Roading will teach you the most.
7. IMHO driving Off-Road is 90% driver and 10% vehicle.
8. Learn how to drive and then start upgrading to your specific needs.

Re: New to off-road

I think LEVE means 90% driver. There are people on this board from all over the country, and a few from other countries. Letting us know where you are means we can help you find clubs in your area if none of the veterans on this board are near you. I consider myself still new to all of this, and this board has taught me more than I have ever dreamed and it just keeps getting better every day. So keep stopping in here to see whats new and ask questions.
