Steering box leak from input shaft seal ??????

i noticed an ever so subtle leak from my steering box today, i think its coming from the input of the box, where the steering column shaft comes in.

i couldnt find any info on this in my buddys service manual...

is this easily fixable or am i gonna have to visit a shop?

thanks!

That seal can be pried out, but be careful and don't disturb the shaft, if you pull the shaft out your in deep trouble. A seal kit at NAPA is under $10. But, if your steering is getting loose it may be wise to just take the box to someone that knows what they are doing for a rebuild..

You have to remove the steering shaft, I meant the shaft in the box. There should be a rubber boot around the end of the shaft, once you get under there you will see what you need to do.

Re: Steering box leak from input shaft seal ??????

I just replaced mine on my CJ and I made it 10x more dificult than it really was. I took the box out of the Jeep to work on it in my shop. There is a dust cap type seal and then the actual seal. I drilled two holes in the seal w/ a small drill bit and pulled it out with an awl.
