Dana 300 removal

How much does a Dana 300 weigh? I need to take mine out and am wondering if I will need to use a jack or if can I just manhandle it.

Re: Dana 300 removal

I have mailed a few of them out, and in the wooden box they weigh 106 pounds. Figure about 5 lbs for the box and padding, so about 100 or so.

BTW, this is the easiest way I have found to take out a transfer case/tranny. Much easier that wrestling around with them under the jeep. You might want to use an old mattress though, it cushions the fall.

Re: Dana 300 removal

Jeepn's method is by far the simplest, I wish I had thought of that instead of having 2 people remove it from UNDER the Jeep.

Re: Dana 300 removal

When I was removing mine to clock it, I used some 3/8" bolts with the heads cut off as locating studs ( sorry can't remember the length) I man-handle it without a problem.

I got it out! It is very heavy but I got it out by myself! I cheated and used a floor jack.

Re: Dana 300 removal

you can man handle it out but it is pretty heavy, dont try to pull it out your directly under it other wise you wont be able to side arm it. Dont forget to disconnect your 4wheel drive wire I ripped mine off last week!!! oops
