Correct Softop 4 A 79CJ5

I bought a Bestop R.A.T. softop for my 79CJ5 from someone on EBAY. Very nice top, to bad it doesn't fit. It has paddle style door handles that don't go back far enough to latch onto the removable verticle bar that forms the door frame. It is most likely for a newer year model. Can someone give me any info on this problem? Thanx-N-advance...N8

The door size didn't change at all from 1977 to 1983. So the size should fit. I haven't installed a top myself so I don't know why its not working for you, but the size is correct. Maybe someone else can explain the problems with its incorrect fit.

I'll take a stab. Factory tops for the CJ5 didn't have paddle latches, so you have a Tiger or Super-top. Its better than the R.A.T. which if I remember correctly is just the replacment top.

You need the door strike plates that bolt to the body tub at the door opening. These stick up from the body edge and grab the paddle latch. I've got a pair that I don't need as I plan on replacing the top when I finish my rebuild, so postage and they're yours.
