Axle swap questions - 70\'s wagoneer

Do all 70's wagoneer's come with 20 in the rear? Or did some come with Dana 44's front and rear? I'm having a hard time finding some 3/4 - 1 ton chevy axles, so I'm thinking of going with some wagoneer axles instead. I've found some 1/2 ton chevy axles but they're double the wagoneer's price. Would I have any trouble with the wagoneer axles if it had the 20 in the rear?

(I'm putting in a Dana 20 transfer case so the front differential is swapping sides.)

Re: Axle swap questions - 70\'s wagoneer

no amc 20s in the rear of 70s Jeep full sizes.

BUt most are offcenter for the Qtrack transfer case. good luck finding a rear centered dana 44

all late 70s wagoneers had dana 44 rears, and dana 44 fronts.

the latermodels 1980 and later used amc20 rears, and they are just as strong as the rear dana 44s

The late 80's and early 90's were back to dana 44 rears though, right?

And don't forget that majority of the waggies from '74 to '77 had the flat topknuckles.

That holds true for the 73 and older FRONTS, but the 70 to 73 rears are centered 44's with 5 on 5-1/2" wheel pattern and 30 spline shafts. I had one of these in mine until a local shop "worked" on it and ruined it.
