Exhaust question on muffler choice??

I have a 92 Wrangler 6cyl in my CJ and I need to replace the exhaust. I need a fairly cheap muffler of some sort that sounds good (not too loud but throaty). Any suggestions or experiences are much appreciated.

Re: Exhaust question on muffler choice??

hey there. my wifes 92YJ i6-4.0 runs and sounds like a charm with her new manifold-back exhaust.
I went with a plain ole' aftermarket free flow cat, with a turbo muffler.(generic- free flow) i used a 2-3/4" pipe and exited behind the tire next to the tank.
it's got a little rumble.(not much from a i-6 by the way) and the pickup and overall top end is much better. it does sound good! i think total cost was $212.00 (i had to have someone bend the pipe for me.)
i recommend changing the cat if you still have it!

Re: Exhaust question on muffler choice??

Hi there! IMO go with Flowmaster. They have been around for a while and are tried and true. My '7 has dual outlet Hedman Headers with dual flowmasters, and I'm constantly getting asked if my jeep has a V8 in it. I've even had people argue with me that it isn't a 6 cylinder. On the other hand, my parents '7 has the factory manifold on it with the cat removed and a single flowmaster in place, and it has a very "throaty" sound. Either way, you can feel the power difference in both. Hope this Helps.

I have a flowmaster in my 94 YJ, and it's got the 6cyl still in it... sounds great, and it's not TO LOUD..

I have the stock cat. too.. if your going to get a new muffler I suggest a new cat. as well... I am looking at getting the "Carsound Performance Cat."

I have heard good reviews from others.

Good luck!

if you don't mind the noise you could alway use glass packs they're ay loud but dirt cheap and impossible to hurt

IMO Flowmaster is the way to go, sometimes they can be expencive, but you get what you pay for.
