Buddy blew up D35 in TJ

Well, my buddy finally blew up his D35 in his '99 TJ. It's been a long time coming. He sheared the teeth off of the spider gears, so we replaced them. Well this time, they blew out, taking the carrier and ring gear with them. So, he's wanting to save money and get a new axle(thinking 9"), but what could we do in the mean time? I suppose the cheapest would be finding a new carrier and R&P, and either having it setup, or setting it up ourselves. Any ideas?

Re: Buddy blew up D35 in TJ

To rebuild a D30 never makes sence. Although it sounds like he needs a quick fix until he can upgrade. I don't know what kind of experence you have but setting up a R&P is not easy, and if you make any mistakes you can expect it to blow up again. And the cost of having someone else do it is high ($500) per axle. For that kind of money if you looked around you could probably find a D30 To swap in. And while your at it, you can keep your eyes out for a good strong swap.

Actually he said D35 no D30. Tj axles aren't that easy to find around here.

I have a set of 4:88's for sale if interested. They are D35 gears. Lightly used.

TJ axles can be found in pairs (hmmm, wonder why everyone swaps them out? ) on about every "For Sale" board on the web. There are several sets on our crappy board and atleast 5 sets on JU. You can also use a rear from the late model XJ/WJ series.
