T-176 wine

I have a 83 CJ-7 with a 304, T-176 4spd. I know jeep trans are noisy but mine wines. It sound like it will blow up before my motor winds out. I'm going drain the oil and fill it. Should I put anything else back in it? I thought about Hy-tach.

Re: T-176 wine

they all whine a bit, biut what gear and what speed, and throttle application make the noise the loudest?

its very likely you have abearing going bad in teh trans, the most common are the input or the out put ( both big roller bearings)

usually happens after alot of miles, or letting it run low on fluid, bearing price is $20-$60 but pretty miuch is a totoal tranny tear down to replace

oh yeah, IM more fameiliar with a T8 so the above info is based upon that, if teh T176 is very differnt Id be suprised

Re: T-176 wine

At 3000 rpm it is louder than my motor. It has done this the entire time I have own it. About 10,000 miles. It only has 90,000 on it now. What is good to use to wash the trans out with.

Re: T-176 wine

to really fix you probably should drop the trans, and try and replace whatever makes the most noise on teh bench, or all the bearings that come in a rebuild kit.
