Nice and simple...need a good, all around, heavy duty, SUPER cheap vice. Ok... not necassarily CHEAP. But I'd like to know what vice y'all would buy. RIGHT NOW.

If money were no object, I'd buy a Wilton. I personally have a 5" Columbia vise bolted on my box at work. Depending on the size you need, Sears might have something that will work for you.

Drew, personally I think prostitution would be the best VISE. Drinking is pretty cool too. Drugs are bad M'kay..
Anyway, hope this helps......

What\'s the best VISE for the money???

I got a $50 6" Chinese one and it's OK. You can get away with a CHEAP vise if you get one BIG enough that you can't break it or stretch the screw.

Hit your yard sales and flea markets. I just picked up a HUGE one for ten bucks at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. If they are old and the jaws are in good shape then they are a good one. Personally i wouldnt buy any vise smaller then 8 inches. This thing i just bought is probably like a 12 or something like that. It must way 50 pounds.

There is a chinese import store here where you can get a monster 6" vise for like $50.00 as mentioned above

that sounds like a deal to me

Best regards

Re: QUICK!!! What\'s the best VICE for the money???

Best is Wilton as said earlier. I have a Craftsman, nice but I paid too much for it. Start calling pawn shops and such. If new is wanted, go to a farm surplus store, tools are much more reasonably priced there. I go to Farm and Fleet. Name brand tools for reasonable money. Yes buy it bigger than you think. 6" I would say is minimum.

Re: QUICK!!! What\'s the best VICE for the money???

I got a 6" Sears and it seems to be doing fine. I pretty sure Wilton makes them for Sears, as they have the same features, casting marks, etc. One thing to look for on new vices is psi rating, most of the Chinese made ones do not have a rating that I have seen. My Sears is a 30K psi rating and Wilton makes others rated at 60K psi and above. Columbian is also made by Wilton and I think most of theirs are 30K psi models. I noticed Lowes had some nice looking vices made an English company, don't know anything about them, but you might look into them too.
