OT-If I make $25 mil. do I deserve a pension?

Since everyone here shares one of america's greatest accomplishments....The
Jeep....Is anyone else pissed off over those greedy ![censored]! baseball players threatening to strike? I can only wish I had those kind of problems to worry about. Yes, I realize there is more to it then that, but come on! You get paid millions to play a game!!!! Just ranting!

I'm lucky I've got a AA team in town. I quit caring about the Major's after the last strike.

I agree with Jax. $7 box seats, dime a dog night, and a good night out.... can't go wrong.

I did have a good time, the last time I was out at the Colorado Rocky's new ball diamond. But it was just something different. Not anything special.

I can understand the strike though.... something needs to change...

Yeah, did they all get beaned by fast balls and forget what happened the last time they went on strike. Even the most diehard union members couldn't identify with them.

i. My wife's 2nd Cousin is John Olerud (Plays for the Mariners).
2. He makes LOTS of moey every year, more money in a year than I've seen in a live time.
3. He negociated a contract..
4. He's a nice guy.
5. I can't afffod to take my family to the games.
6. So I don't go.
7. If everyone else put their priorities in their families rather than sport...
8. John'd be working at a honest job for a living.
9. Does he deserve a pension? Deserved? Well, Yes if it is, or can be negociated.
10. If you're stupid enough to go to the games an pay his salary... yes he deserves it.

Me, I spend my money on root-beer floats, kids college, the wife and the Jeep... and I'll play ball with John at the wife's family reuniions.. til then I see him enough on the sports news ever other night or so.....

Exactly LEVE. I'd rather play ball in my backyard with my family and friends anyway. And you can't put a price on that!

I think that if a guy makes 25 million a year and he can't put enough money away on his own for a pension then he just doesn't deserve it.

Re: OT-If I make $25 mil. do I deserve a pension?

I think that if he can get it, he deserves it. He'd never get it from me, but if somebody wants to give it to him to play a game, more power to him.

The whole concept of 'deserving' really doesn't belong in the public forum of a capitalist society. The only thing an employee deserves is what he can negotiate from the employer; baseball players, rock stars, carpenters or cab drivers. For that matter cars, apartments or spark plugs are worth what somebody is willing to pay. Not a penny more or less. Does Paul McCartney deserve $250 for a ticket to his concert? Yes, if someone is willing to pay $250 to go to a Paul McCartney concert. Is a Ferrari Daytona worth $2.5 million? It is if somebody is willing to pay that much for it.

I'm with Leve on this. I've got lots of better things to spend my time and money on than professional sports. But if the fans are willing to pay it, the players and owners deserve it. I guess one could as well say that the fans who fork out the big bux for a professional sporting event deserve it too.

1989 Baltimore Oriols ticket, $ 8.00
2002 Baltimore Oriols ticket, $24.00

I walked away when Roberto Alomar spit in an umpires' face, and was given a slap on the wrist. Who needs it.
