Re: OT-If I make $25 mil. do I deserve a pension?
I think that if he can get it, he deserves it. He'd never get it from me, but if somebody wants to give it to him to play a game, more power to him.
The whole concept of 'deserving' really doesn't belong in the public forum of a capitalist society. The only thing an employee deserves is what he can negotiate from the employer; baseball players, rock stars, carpenters or cab drivers. For that matter cars, apartments or spark plugs are worth what somebody is willing to pay. Not a penny more or less. Does Paul McCartney deserve $250 for a ticket to his concert? Yes, if someone is willing to pay $250 to go to a Paul McCartney concert. Is a Ferrari Daytona worth $2.5 million? It is if somebody is willing to pay that much for it.
I'm with Leve on this. I've got lots of better things to spend my time and money on than professional sports. But if the fans are willing to pay it, the players and owners deserve it. I guess one could as well say that the fans who fork out the big bux for a professional sporting event deserve it too.
